Jim Cooper

 Jim has a B.A. degree in Music Education (K-12) and Percussion from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago and a M.M. degree in Jazz Studies from Northern Illinois University. This year he will be celebrating his 16th year as a junior high jazz band director at Blue Lake Fine Arts Summer Camp. From 2012 to 2015 he was adjunct instructor in jazz vibraphone at Northwestern University. He currently teaches the History of Rock and Jazz Piano at Lake Michigan College.

       a.  Jim rehearses/performs with school combo

       b.  topics may include interaction, listening, improvisation, arranging, tune selection and more.

4.  GOOD VIBES:  A HISTORICAL VIEW OF THE JAZZ VIBRAPHONE

 Jim talks about the contributions and styles of Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson Cal Tjader, Gary Burton and Bobby Hutcherson and performs songs from their recordings.  If there is internet access, YouTube clips are played as well.
